Bolinao History

Founded by Captain Pedro Lombi in 1575, Bolinao was then called “Binabalian” meaning an “old town” with only few hundred settlers. Later on, it was relocated on the mainland due to piratical molestation. It was in 1585 when father Esteban Marinas, the first Augustinian priest started the evangelization of the town.in 1609 the Catholic Church was built and iss considered one of the oldest Church in the country.

Bolinao and other western Pangasinan towns were once part of Zambales. It was in year 1903 when Bolinao and other western towns were transferred to Pangasinan due to its proximity to the capital town Lingayen.
